Year of the Ox

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

I enjoy reading and learning about zodiacs and other such things. Obviously not everything they say is true and some of it is heavily generalized, but it’s interesting to read about nonetheless. My animal according to the Chinese zodiac is a rabbit which is definitely spot-on: creative, compassionate, and sensitive. Avoids confrontation at all costs, prefers to stay at home, need to build more self-confidence, and sometimes misses out on opportunities because we’d rather feel safe and not take risks. So true. Now that we’re in 2009, it’s the year of the Ox (beginning Jan. 26th) which is thought to bring prosperity and good fortune through hard work and perseverance. It’s not a good time to take outrageous risks or let things slide. All of which seems like pretty good advice considering the economy recently. Tell me, what’s your sign and how accurate do you think it is? If you don’t know, then feel free to visit this site to read more about Chinese astrology..

In other news, I have to get better about updating this thing. I only seem to update after each semester ends, which isn’t very much at all! :/ It’s just frustrating because I never know what to write about so it just keeps getting pushed back. Hopefully the new year will usher in some change in that department! Anyways, fall semester went well; got some general education requirements out of the way and I also took a clay class which was interesting and different than what I’m normally used to doing. I did really well and made the Dean’s List, too. :) Right now for Winter Term I’m taking an Asian Art and Techniques class. So far we’ve done Chinese calligraphy and bamboo paintings as well as tai chi. The classes are a bit long, but still pretty fun overall. We get to use rice paper and actually grind our own ink by using an ink stick and ink stone.

During Christmas break, my grandma, mom and I went up north for two weeks to Massachusetts so that we could visit family. It was fun in the beginning, but about halfway through there was some major family drama which resulted in my mom and I staying in a hotel the last week we were there. Wasn’t all bad, though. I got to run around and play in the snow for only the second time in my life (wish I had took pictures) and it was good to actually get away and do something for the holidays since we barely ever go anywhere. :p

Right now I’m just wishing school would pass by faster since it always seems to drag on a bit during the second half. Gonna try to update this more often, especially since I’ll be taking computer art and graphic design classes starting in February. Really looking forward to that!

Oh yeah, has anyone else seen the ads on TV from Americans for the Arts? The ones with Van Gogh-gurt and Raisin Brahms? Every time I see them they make me chuckle. They’re really cute and clever and have a great message, too… Just sayin’.

Until next time,

xoxo
